Chandigarh Airport - The Most Modern Airport In India

Chandigarh is among the most developed cities in India. It is a union territory and hence is directly controlled by the central government. It is also the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. These states are not only agriculture hubs but also economic centers of immense importance for India. People of the city are extremely modern and choose air transportation quite frequently. Punjab is also home to some of the best educational institutions in the country and hence thousands of students travel to the city of Chandigarh every year.
Chandigarh is also a major entertainment hub of the country. Tourism is well supported by the robust air transport network in the city. The Chandigarh Airport which is partly owned by the Punjab Government, Haryana Government (24.5% stakes each) and the Airports Authority of India (51%) is one of the most modern airports in the world. The airport currently has a single terminal but expansion in currently underway in Mohali.
The New terminal
Over the years there has been an increasing demand to start a new international terminal at the Airport in Chandigarh given its strategically important location. It would as a highly profitable venture for all stakeholders including passengers, airline companies and the AAI. In order to fulfill this demand a new international terminal is under construction in Mohali and was almost complete in July 2015.
This new terminal will connect the north central part of India to major cities in the Indian Subcontinent at first and later to the major airports in Europe and the United States under an expansion policy. Due to shortage of space the terminal had to build at Mohali.
