Owned by the Airports Authority of India, the international airport of Ahmedabad serves the cities of Ahmedabad, as well as Gandhi Nagar. Located in Ahmedabad, this airport is the major hub for the leading domestic air carrier SpiceJet. Located at a distance of 9 kilometres to the north from the central region of Ahmedabad, this airport lies in the Hansol area of Ahmedabad. Named after the first deputy prime minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Ahmedabad Airport handles both domestic as well as international air traffic. This airport was ranked as the 8th busiest airport of India in the year 2014.
Since the year 2015 the process of privatization of this airport has been initiated by the Government of India. There are in total 3 terminals at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport, out of which two terminals namely Terminal 1 And Terminal 2 are dedicated to scheduled passenger services whereas the cargo terminal of this airport handle cargo traffic.
The Terminal 1 of Pune Airport comprises of 32 check-in counters and is stretched over an area of 45000 square metres. The terminal 2 of this airport is stretched over an area of 41000 square metres and is large enough to accommodate almost 1600 passengers at one point of time.
